Current data indicate around 20 laboratory-confirmed cases, with additional suspected cases under investigation, the majority of which are linked to Meningitis B (MenB) and require urgent hospital care.
Hospital doctors across affected regions have responded rapidly and professionally, delivering high-quality care under pressure while supporting vaccination and antibiotic programmes at scale. This outbreak is a stark reminder of how quickly invasive meningococcal disease can escalate, particularly among young people in close-contact settings.
For our members, we emphasise the importance of maintaining a high index of clinical suspicion, early recognition of symptoms, and rapid initiation of treatment pathways.
